Splash Pad Project/History
Consider donating today to help support our splash pad community fundraiser. The splash pad project has a fundraising goal of $150,000. This dollar figure is half the total cost of the project. A community splash pad has long been desired in the Town of Burgaw. The idea was presented as a top ten most needed facility through the 2016 Parks and Recreation Master Plan and the number two most requested facility in the 2024 Master Plan update. A similar fundraising effort was conducted in previous years, but did not occur due to internal logistics and location.
To support the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department for the town, The Parks Foundation of Burgaw has presented this information to the Town of Burgaw Board of Commissioners for support and approval to use the existing land at Bishop Rayford Hankins Memorial Park. The request was unanimously approved, launching the current fundraising campaign.
Project Location
The Parks Foundation of Burgaw is proposing to install the community splash pad at Bishop Rayford Hankins Memorial Park. The park is located at 307 N. Walker Street and is around 1 acre in size. This location has an existing gravel lot adjacent to the park to serve the proposed plans and has the potential for diagonal street-side parking in the future.
Existing utilities and infrastructure are also key to this location. The park is adjacent to adequate water supply and power for the proposed pump house. Further, the park location has existing restroom facilities which are required when having a splash pad structure inside a park facility.
Project Funding
The splash pad project has a fundraising goal of $150,000. This figure is half the total cost of the project. The Foundation is looking to meet this goal through community donations, corporate sponsorships, and smaller regional grants.
Once this goal is met, the Foundation plans to make a charitable donation to the Burgaw Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department to be held in a capital improvement account for the project. Those funds would then be used to apply for matching funding from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund backed by the Governor's Office and the State of North Carolina.

The Foundation is a tax-except organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donors can deduct contributions they make to our organization under IRC Section 170.
